Fausto Puglisi Fall/Winter 2013

This is the first Fausto Puglisi collection, including Ungaro, that I've sat up and noticed. Its got a Versus without the Versace tackiness vibe to it, and made me regret throwing out a lot of tartan over the years. It only juuuuust stop short of being too trendy (please God, give me the good grace not to smack caps off peoples heads), but keeping the shapes and embellishment pretty simple and adding in daggy Dad Tommy Hilfiger stripes tones it down perfectly.

Here's what Esty thinks:

Chloé Fall/Winter 2013

This will be the first in a serious of fall season wrap up / get the look posts. Since I browse fashion shows with an Etsy / Svpply tab open at all times I thought I may as well share them with you, because it means if you buy these pieces, its stops me from doing so and my credit card will thank you.

Unlike many other high end brands that do "simple", I would actually save up for an investment piece by Chloé (except a handbag because I cannot be trusted with expensive things that aren't attached to my body in some way - I will leave it on a plane or at some bar and I will cry). This is because they do it so mind-blowingly well - the perfect balance of feminine and masculine, old and young.

While I wait for enough pennies to roll into my savings, here's what Etsy is tempting me with:

Really Tough And Sporty And Fash Blawger

Jacket - Vintage from the Red Light Clothing Exchange, Shirt - Supre, Skirt - Zara, Shoes - Windsor Smith
Photographer - Lucy Alcorn

This is actually a look that I really liked on paper - casual on the top, party on the bottom, denim and neon, very "bloggery". Then I put it on, and realised that this doesn't suit me and has absolutely no relation to things that I would wear in real life. The reason I even own these shoes? I bought them for Melbourne Cup. The fact that I was even at Melbourne Cup in the first place makes zero sense, so these shoes make -10 sense on my feet.

So this post is really just to say you will never see anything like this again, because I don't dress like this ever and temporarily lost my mind.

I'm still going to put it up on lookbook.nu though. Whatever. Eat me.

What's Black And White and Red All Over?

Skirt - ASOS, Sweater - Retrospec'd, Shirt - Ben Sherman, Shoes - Qupid from GoJane

...me and my dumb face! I'm not great at riddles. This is the outfit I wore for my 24th birthday. I didn't fall over in these shoes ONCE and I was very proud. Also this cake was made for me:

Steve Buscemi putting on lipstick aside, this jumper is one of my favourite basic black items and I've never found anything to match it - lightweight and mid sleeve, so you can wear it all year, high neck so its perfect for collars, and cropped length so I can wear it with my collection of harry high pants and sally circle skirts.

Would Turn For - Anne-Catherine Frey

I like to think I have original style that is unique to me, but then I come across people like Anne-Catherine Frey who dress EXACTLY how I would want to - not a shoe, accessory or hair out of place - and I think maybe style can never really be original (as much as we'd like it to be).She even sounds like me:

"How do you get dressed in the morning?
Very quickly, because I always wake up too late. Very quick, very easy, very comfortable, very basic, but I never forget my signature shirt collar."

Favourite weekend activity? Sleeping!"
(from Telegraph UK)
A woman after my own heart. She makes me want to grow some eyebrows.

Paddle Pop & Crop Top

Suit - Wish, Belt - American Apparel, Top - Supre, Shoes - Nu + Nan

I'm usually a bit scared of yellow with my firey old mop of hair but this pastel suit seems to work.

SOMEBODY STOP ME!

This post should really just be called "Shit I Want From Etsy", and I guarantee there will be a lot more of them. I love Etsy. I sometimes wonder why I ever buy things that aren't from Etsy, to be honest. I'm going to say Etsy one more time.

Three Floor - Please Get On Me

Three Floor Spring 13 is absolutely incredible - the sparkles, the lurex, the tweed, oh my. If it wasn't clothes that I could wear I would try and eat this collection its so good. And its actually a within-the realms-of-reality price point too! $190 AUD for a dress, $143 for a top. I'm meant be saving for...life in general but I feel like I need that green collar dress for all the ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that I go to at night.

Boohoo Global Styler X Near Baldness

Glasses, skirt & tights - Boohoo, Shirt - Cue, Jacket - ASOS, Shoes - Zara
Photographer - Chris Foster

I'M WEARING BA-HA IN SAHDNAH! I decided to type that in a north shore accent for no apparent reason.

I am all about these wooden sunglasses even though they are too big for my tiny child's head. So lovely and smooth, reminds me of driftwood. Also this shirt is one of my favourites (thank you very much DFO, stands for Dangerous Fucking Open-Your-Wallet. Not sure why though, since that doesn't make any sense). I wish it glowed in the dark.

Ps. I have no hair any more and its the best idea I've ever had.

Sitting On Strangers Cars In Booty Shorts

Jacket - Vintage, Shirt - Antipodium, Shorts - Lee, Shoes - Sportsgirl, Frames - Jono Hennessy

Photographer - Lucy Alcorn

Some days you just want to put on impossibly tiny denim shorts and put dents in impossibly tiny cars with your booty. It makes me feel like Godzilla.

I'm pretty sure that's all I want to say. I realised at work today that I never read the things that are written under bloggers outfit posts. It could say "I AM THE LINDBURGH BABY" and then a bunch of ASCII art and I still wouldn't notice it, because outfit posts are for looking at pretty clothes and how said clothes are put together on a human body. I don't think clothes need to be 'reviewed'. I don't really care how they function, I just care how they look, and I can do that with my looking peepers, not my reading peepers.

In saying that I just wrote a whole bunch of stuff anyway.

Abalone

Vintage compact - metroretrovintage, Vintage triangle brooch - Chris Melendez, Vintage star pendant - Renaissance Jewelers, Vintage hexagon watch - Loop And Buckle, Ring - Vintage Penny Lane, Earrings - Kohls

Not just a crappy seashell you find fashioned into turtles and frogs in souvenier shops in coastal towns, abalone shell is like natures oil slick - sounds like a contradiction in terms, but man-oh-man is it on trend.

Goodbye summer

Dress - Alice McCall, Shoes - Tony Bianco
Photographer - Lucy Alcorn

I'm literally moving out of my house as I write this, so I'll make this brief:
  • This is the only time you'll ever see me in a low cut anything. Enjoy it, ladies.
  • This dress is totally amazing, Alice McCall is a treasure.
  • I can't walk in these shoes, but holy butts are they pretty. I wore them to a wedding in the middle of Washington State in a blizzard, it was a bad choice.

Jeffrey Campbell is a drunk - the countdown edition

There is something I have never understood about Jeffrey Campbell shoes - how are they often so lovely, and so wearable, and just as often completely awful mangled shoebeasts covered in studs?

"Please kill me"

My only conclusion is that everyone who works there steadily drinks though the day. In the morning when everyone is sober, your run of the mill, pretty average but not awful, shoes are designed.

At about lunchtime, everyone is at that inspired stage of being drunk - its the point at which you're usually your wittiest, you're still a good dancer, and your brain is just nice and loosey-goosey and the ideas are flowing freely. Interesting and well designed shoes overfloweth, innovative design abounds.

By the afternoon is when all hell breaks loose. Trends are mixed with wild abandon, different materials and concepts are chewed up and vomited out into a weird rainbow mess that apparently consumers are meant to put on their feet.

So here are my top ten best and top ten worst Jeffrey Campbell shoes.

BEST

'Medina'
Well balanced, good use of clear plastic, not even stupidly high.

'Zuba'
Sporty, coloured but not too colourful, good solid heel.

'Dorado'
Real cute, very Britpack. Great toe shape, awesome curved heel. Want this as my winter boot this season!
'Mikhail'
Classic little oxford shoe in a cute summer colour.

'Soiree'

Simple two strap shape, well balanced with an on-trend ombre perspex heel.

'Seem'
Cute Erdem-esque print, solid chunky well balanced shape.
'Dulles'

Man style done really well. Great toe detail, reminds me of Givenchy "gills".

'I Confess'

I can see how someone might hate this one, but I think its a statement shoe done quite well. Curved heel and the check pattern are great - the red straps are absolutely toeing the line of "too many trends" but since it stops short, these shoes are a winner in my book.

'Miss You'
Two things that I think are great - chunky schoolgirl soles, and cutout oxford shoes. Excellent combo. See? You only need TWO TRENDS. You don't have to drive a truckload of runway looks up to the shoe and dump them all over it.

'Arizona'
I know little boots like this have been done to death but I really like this pattern and colour.

WORST

'Vicious'
I want to melt this shoe down into a rainbow plastic studded goo and feed it to a cat I don't like that scratched me one time.

'Scotty'
This shoe was born when a bad motel couch got sent to hell for being too ugly and dipped itself into a lake of gold hellfire.

'Sporty'
This is actually a great shoe for sports like sinking, running from angry villagers with burning torches, and candy cane polo.

'Teramo'
"Hey, you got peanut butter on my comic book!"

"You got comic book on my peanut butter!"

MMM DELICIOUS!

'What'
...exactly.

GO BACK TO THE SWAMP FROM WHENCE YOU CAME

'Xanadu'
And to think 3 baby leopards and a baby robot died to make this monstrosity.

'Lita'
Cons - requires regular grooming. Pros - an excellent family pet

'Zup'
This shoe reminds me of terrible MySpace profiles of terrible scene girls - all pink and black and layed out really badly and noisy and awful.

'Tick'
Looking at this is giving me limes disease.

'Aksana'

Just look at the blue bit - it looks like a little blue man is trying to escape from the rest of the shoe. I don't blame him.
